The wet look and the natural lash set build on the same trend: neat, light, personalized lashes. One gives a bolder, glossier effect; the other defines the eyes while keeping the overall look natural.

Why are they so popular?

Instead of overly dense, heavy sets, many clients want lashes that fit into everyday life. Both the wet look and natural styling can work at the office, with special-occasion makeup or even with no makeup at all. What the two styles share is neatness: the lashes don’t stick out randomly but follow a deliberately designed direction.

What makes a wet look a wet look?

The wet look effect comes from narrow, closed fans. Rather than soft, spread-out volume fans, they form pointier, “spiky” shapes. That makes the lash line look slightly wet.

Lash artists usually work with promade fans or hand-made, more closed volume fans. Fans from 2D to 6D allow for a range of densities. The wet look is at its best when there’s some space between the spikes: fans that are too dense or too wide take away the essence of the wet effect.

Which lashes can you use?

  • Narrow volume fans, if you want a more striking yet neat set.
  • Promade fans, which speed up application and give a uniform shape.
  • Laser promade fans, whose textured base makes them flexible to attach, available in several versions from 2D to 6D.
  • Black or dark brown extensions, depending on how much contrast you want.

Beauty’s Secret Premium Laser Promade fans, for example, are made from ultra-light, soft 0.07 mm fibers. The range includes 2D, 3D, 4D, 5D and 6D versions, among others, so you can match the density to the natural lashes and the look you want.

Who does the wet look suit?

The wet look can be a great choice if you love a defined, brushed-through lash line but don’t want a fully dense, continuous volume effect. It works especially well for eye shapes that suit a more vertical, spiky styling. The direction of the natural lashes matters a lot too: with straight, downward-growing or sparse lashes, the right curl and length can dramatically change the look of the eyes.

The wet look is less ideal if you want a very soft, diffused lash line. In that case, a soft natural set or light soft volume may be closer to what you have in mind.

A natural set isn’t just one style

The essence of a natural lash set is that the extensions follow the character of the natural lashes. That doesn’t necessarily mean short or completely unnoticeable. The goal is a neater, darker, more curled lash line that never feels heavy.

You can create a natural effect with classic 1:1 technique, light 2D or 3D volume fans, brown lash extensions, or shorter, gradually built lengths. Length isn’t the only thing that makes a set look natural: too strong a curl or the wrong styling can look artificial even when the lashes themselves are fine.

How to create a beautiful, long-lasting set

Clean prep shapes the result of every styling. First, cleanse the natural lashes and dry them completely. Primer removes oily residue from the surface and can create the right base for adhesion. The textured base of laser-cut extensions and fans can provide a larger bonding surface, so less excess product may stay at the base, and the attachment can feel more flexible and natural.

What to consider before you choose

The best set isn’t necessarily the one that looks fullest in the photo. The length, thickness, density and strength of the natural lashes all have to be taken into account. The wet look puts a neat, spiky character front and center, while the natural set focuses on softer, more natural framing. Done right, either one becomes a personalized favorite.
